Sturgis team wins home volleyball tournament

The Sturgis senior boys volleyball team hosted a five-team tournament at the Sturgis Composite School on September 16.

            The Sturgis senior boys volleyball team hosted a five-team tournament at the Sturgis Composite School on September 16.

            The Sturgis senior boys volleyball team, comprised of older players from the Sturgis and Norquay schools, won first place in the Sturgis home tournament.

Norquay players were Tyler Shankowsky, Cole Rubletz, Austin Auchstetter and Cody Heskin. Sturgis players were, Bo Babiuk, Garrett Bazuik, Jalen Bayer and Kurtis Gerbrandt.

            The Norquay senior boys volleyball team, comprised of younger players from Sturgis and Norquay, was defeated in the semifinals by the Sturgis team.

Sturgis players were Seth Rayner, Dean Terennal, JR Puyos, Salem Johnson, Zane Bayer, while Norquay players were Zack Hamm and  Jayden Heskin.

            Kipp Bayer is the coach for both teams.

            Sturgis defeated Cowesses in the final match in the best-of-three sets for the first-place win.
            Norquay finished third, losing to Sturgis in the semis.

            Other teams entered were from Canora and Wadena.
