Sturgis team wins district curling championship

The Sturgis Composite High School junior mixed curling team was declared the East Central district champions during the junior curling districts held in Yorkton on January 27 and 29.

聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 The Sturgis Composite High School junior mixed curling team was declared 聽the East Central district champions during the junior curling districts held in Yorkton on January 27 and 29.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Team members are Shae Peterson, Brynn Babiuk, Carter Masley and Kylie Babiuk. Kirsten Peterson was the coach.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淭he Sturgis team went undefeated through the entire weekend,鈥 said Kirsten Peterson. The team defeated Canora in the first game and followed that by defeating Springside in the second game of the A event.

The team took on Preeceville and, in an extra end, won. Sturgis and Preeceville faced off against one another in the gold matchup that Sturgis won for the gold medal.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Other teams entered included Sacred Heart, Saltcoats, Yorkton Regional High School, Stockholm and Canora.
