Stefan Kylm loves the adrenaline rush he feels when he鈥檚 behind the wheel.
鈥淚 enjoy it so much,鈥� he said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 an incredible feeling.鈥�
Kylm is a stock car racer. He joined dozens of vehicular competitors at the Yellowhead International Speedway on Jun. 3 for an afternoon of high-octane racing.
Kylm, a Hanley resident, made the long journey to Yorkton with his team for a love of the sport.
鈥淲e come out here every year to race in Yorkton,鈥� he said. 鈥淲e enjoy racing.
鈥淕ood people [out here.]鈥�
Fans, friends, and family members filled the bleachers to cheer on their favourite racers. Competitors came from across Saskatchewan to join the race, representing Yorkton, Saskatoon, Swan River, Tisdale, Weyburn, Swift Current, and other locations.
Tyler Carter, a member of GT Racing, trekked from Kipling to race in Yorkton. He鈥檚 been competiting with stock cars for close to a decade. Like Kylm, he loves the adrenaline.
鈥淚t鈥檚 a rush for sure,鈥� he said. 鈥淸I love] the speed.鈥�
Carter races in tracks all over Saskatchewan, but the Yellowhead Speedway holds a special place in his heart.
鈥淚鈥檝e been here every year,鈥� he said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 my main track.鈥�
Carter is sponsored by a variety of companies. He thanks them for their support.
鈥淲ithout sponsors, [I] wouldn鈥檛 be here,鈥� he said. 鈥淣eed every one of them to keep going.鈥�
The drivers filled the oval track, slamming their pedals as they sped forward. When he鈥檚 driving his stock car, Kylm has a simple strategy.
鈥淩ace as fast as you can,鈥� he said.
