Yorkton residents can get more than a glance of the Stanley Cup on August 16.
After being flown in, Jarret Stoll of the Los Angeles Kings will take the cup to Neudorf to spend some time with his family. Stoll and his family will bring the cup in to Yorkton around 1:30pm to prepare for the Stanley Cup parade, which will run from 2pm to 3pm. The parade will travel along Broadway St. West, starting at 6th Ave and ending at the Gallagher Center.
With 22 floats already registered, floats are encouraged to register in advance of the parade. The one to watch will be Stoll's uncle's antique sheriff truck, which will carry Stoll's family and the Stanley Cup.
Residents should note that Broadway St. West "will be disrupted that day and to have patience because we don't want anyone getting hurt," said parade organizer Penny Sandercock.
People traveling in that area should plan around the event.
"If they need to get downtown we ask the public to please make arrangements or park on a side road and walk," she advised.
For those looking to take a photo with the Stanley Cup, the upstairs of the Gallagher Centre will be open for photos. The charge will be $10 a photo. Make sure to bring your own camera.
The nighttime supper and cabaret is already sold out. Six hundred tickets for the nighttime supper and cabaret sold within one day "without even publicizing. It was crazy," said Sandercock.
This event will start with cocktails at 5:30pm, followed by supper and speeches at 6:30pm and a social at 8pm. The night may include a band, but this is not yet confirmed.
All proceeds from the day will go towards Kidsport in Yorkton, a choice made by Stoll.
A poster of Stoll will also go up at the Kinsmen.
