Sacred Heart High School will be hosting a senior girls volleyball tournament next weekend. Round robin matches will go two games and playoffs will be a best-of-three. Included in the mix will be a full court match between the two Yorkton high schools, Sacred Heart and the Yorkton Regional. That game is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.


The YRHS football teams are both advancing to the playoffs. The junior team won over the weekend to up their record to 4-4 and await a first round playoff opponent this week. The senior team was scheduled to close out their season yesterday (Tuesday) night as Estevan was expected to visit. The first round of the Moose Jaw playoffs are scheduled for Oct. 13.


The Yorkton Terriers are in for three games this week. On Tuesday they were in Estevan to play the Bruins. On Friday, they play their first of three home-and-home series with the Melville Millionaires. The two teams play in Yorkton on Friday before switching to the Horizon Credit Union Centre for a re-match on Saturday. Yorkton's first game next week is a home match with the Flin Flon Bombers coming to town.


The Yorkton Harvest are coming off of their first win of the season, a 5-1 triumph over the Battleford Stars at the Farrell Agencies Arena. See related story on Page A20. The win improves Yorkton's record to 1-3. They are on home ice again next weekend as the Saskatoon Blazers pay a visit. Games will be at 7:30 and 2 p.m.


On Oct. 12, the Sacred Heart High School (SHHS) football program will be sharing the sports spotlight with the SJHL Yorkton Terriers. SHHS head coach Trent Senger said the senior and junior teams will be playing host to the Esterhazy Warriors in the first night kickoff of the season. The junior development team opens at 4 p.m., and the senior teams follow.
