The Yorkton Cardinals went 2-3 last week in the Western Major Baseball League. On June 4, they beat Melville 5-4. On June 6, they lost to Weyburn 4-1. On June 7 and 8, they played back-to-back games against the Miller Express, losing the first one 13-5 and taking the second one 14-5. On June 9, they lost to Regina 2-1.
The Yorkton Yankees improved their record to 6-0 last week. On Tuesday, June 4 they topped the Langenburg Indians 5-4. Hitting stars for Yorkton: Kurt Karcha (2-2) with two singles and a sacrifice bunt, Mackenzie Unyi (3-4) with three doubles and Dave Morari (1-4) with a three- run homerun. The Yankees topped the Melville Bison 11-1 the following day. Hitting stars for Yorkton: Dave Morari (3-4) with two singles, a double, a walk, three runs scored and two RBI, and Mackenzie Unyi (2-4) with two singles and two-runs scored. On Friday, June 6 the Yankees beat the Russell Bulls 7-0. Hitting stars for Yorkton: Dave Morari (2-4) with a single, double, and a walk. The Yankees' game against Swan River on Saturday, June 7 was cancelled because of rain.
The Yorkton Yorkers have undoubtedly turned some heads in the Saskatchewan Cricket League.
Not even a full month into their first season in the league, the Yorkers were invited by the Cavalier Sports and Social club to take part in a triangular T-20 tournament on June 29-30 at Douglas Park in Regina.
"It's a great honour for us to be asked to play in this tournament," said Yorkers team captain Faisal Anwar.
The Yorkers will suit up against the Regina Cavaliers and a Winnipeg-based team in the tournament.
"It will be a venue of skill, talent, and friendships for years to come," said Khurum H., who is the president of the Cavalier Sports and Social Club. "We envisage that we will foster a strong bond between the participating clubs and our respective communities through the camaraderie of sportsmanship. This year respective teams will be competing for personal achievements, city pride and of course bragging rights for next year."
