The local football teams have all advanced to post season action with games taking place this week. The YRHS senior team is going to round two, the YRHS junior team was scheduled to play round one Monday night in Regina and the SHHS senior team is scheduled to play a night game in Melville this week. Saturday afternoon will be a re-match of the YRHS/CCI (Moose Jaw) game from earlier in the season.
Sacred Heart High School will be hosting a senior girls volleyball tournament this weekend. Round robin matches will go two games and playoffs will be a best-of-three. Included in the mix will be a full court match between the two Yorkton high schools, Sacred Heart and the Yorkton Regional. That game is scheduled for 2:30 p.m., on Oct. 19.
The Yorkton Terriers are in for three games this week. On Tuesday they hosted the Flin Flon Bombers. On Thursday, they head to Melfort to take on the Mustangs and conclude the week with a Saturday matchup with the LaRonge Icewolves, who are currently in second last place in the Bauer Conference. The Yorkton home game starts at 7:30 p.m. Results of the Tuesday game with Flin Flon were not available in time for press.
The Yorkton Harvest are coming off a pair of losses to the Saskatoon Blazers. Yorkton's record is now at 1-5. Their next game is tonight at the Farrell Agencies Arena against the Notre Dame Hounds. Game time is slated for 8 p.m.
The 14th Annual Prairie Wildfire TaeKwonDo Challenge is scheduled for Oct. 27 at the Gallagher Centre in Yorkton. It is a day-long event involving TaeKwonDo students from Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario as well as North Dakota. The competition will feature black belt sparring.
