The Yorkton United girls soccer team has enjoyed so much success recently, they thought they would try their hand at something different. Fundraising.
"After two consecutive provincial championships (one indoor and one outdoor), the Under 16 United girls soccer team has decided to take on another venture," quotes Jeanne Fetsch, coach of the girls alumni team which played in a benefit game for cancer research at Sacred Heart High School Sunday afternoon.
"They are playing in a benefit game at SHHS to raise money for breast cancer research."
Alfredo Bermudez, Fetsch's coaching counterpart, representing the U16 girls team, was equally as enthusiastic about this endeavour.
"So far this game is going great. It's 2-1 for the younger team at the half," Bermudez reports.
He said they have pledges and had a collection at the half and he hopes to raise $2000 for the cause.
He said there wasn't really a goal for how much they want to raise but did say he wishes to thank all of those who participated in putting together the game.
He also added that he hopes it will become an annual event.
"It's a good day, a good game. I want to say thanks to everybody who showed up to the game. The girls really appreciate it."
Bermudez also noted that it was something he came up with while talking to some of the players.
It was also something that had to be done before the start of the school year.
The match included a handful of girls who have attended SHHS in the past few years.
