There are eight teams that advance to SHSAA soccer provincials so first game is quarterfinal, second is semi-final and third game is the final.
After playing two straight matches where they lit up their opponents on the scoreboard, the Sacred Heart High School Lady Saints soccer club was in for a test in the Saskatchewan High School Athletics Association (SHSAA) provincial finals when they met up with the Bishop Mahoney FC.
"On paper, they (SHHS) shouldn't have even been in the ball game," insists SHHS coach Jeanne Fetsch.
"(Instead), they played with tenacity and a tremendous desire to win."
In the final, against a very skilled Saskatoon team, Saskatoon took a two-goal lead in the first half, reports Fetsch.
Rita Fetsch cut the lead in half but Saskatoon restored their two-goal lead when Mahoney scored again.
Fetsch answered that goal back when she was awarded a penalty kick and from there on in, SHHS pushed hard for the equalizer but were denied, says coach Fetsch.
Absent from the line up for the final was key player Kristen Jonassen.
The victors - Bishop John Mahoney Saints of Saskatoon - claimed their third straight 2A girls' soccer championship after sweeping aside Humboldt 5-0 and Notre Dame 5-2.
Sacred Heart defenders Katie Inglis, Connor Rosluk, and forward turned defender for this game, Kaylee Ford all played great, covering nicely for each other. Two of the three goals Saskatoon scored were off of set plays Saints finish the season with a 13-5 record, says Fetsch.

The Saints will be losing three players to graduation this season and would like to thank Shayla Merriam, Kaitlin Inglis, and Connor Rosluk for their leadership, their dedication and their commitment to Saints soccer.
A breakdown of the SHHS scoring through the tournament saw Rita Fetsch and Morgan Shymanski produce all five goals in a 5-nil win over Regina Sheldon. Amy Prybylski got the shutout. Game two against Regina Miller resulted in a 6-nil win. Bryce Sherring and Allison Kruger chipped in and Shymanski had a pair. Prybylski produced her second goose-egg.
