SHHS badminton results

The Sacred Heart High School senior badminton team traveled to Melville on Wednesday, April 10 for a tournament. The boys doubles' team - Colton Kitzan and Caleb Sutter - lost out in the semi-final, placing fourth.

The boys doubles' team - Colton Kitzan and Caleb Sutter - lost out in the semi-final, placing fourth.

In girls' doubles: Katilin Inglis and Allison Kruger won gold.

In mixed doubles: Riana Skikewich and Justin Guy won gold.

Shayla Merriam and Colin Shewchuk placed silver in singles in their respective gender categories.

York City tourney

On Monday, April 15, Sacred Heart High School and the Yorkton Regional High School co-hosted the York City Senior Badminton Tournament.

Yorkton Regional coach Shawn Redmond and Sacred Heart coaches Jeanne Fetsch and Jim Grela ran the tournament.

The tourney entailed teams from eight different schools: Melville, Canora, Sturgis, Preecville, Norquay, Invermay, as well as YRHS and SHHS of course.

In boys' singles: Canora went up against Melville and the Yorkton Regional went up against Sturgis in the semi-finals. Melville and YRHS advanced with the gold going to Chad Zulyniak of Melville and silver to Jordan Chrobot of YRHS.

In girls' singles: Brandey Blahut of YRHS took on Taryn Danchilla of Canora and Rita Fetsch of SHHS took on Morgan Shymanski of SHHS in the semi finals. YRHS and SHHS advanced to the final with Blahut taking the gold and Shynmanski winning the silver.

In boys' doubles: Dylan Smorodin and Korwin Shewchuk of Canora took on Tanner and Jade of Melville and Graham Campbell and Edde Schramm of YRHS took on Rocky and Andrew of Invermay in the semi finals. Both YRHS and Canora advanced to the finals. Gold went to Graham and Edde of YRHS and Dylan and Korwin of Canora took home the silver.

In girls' doubles: Canora played Invermay and YRHS played Sturgis. Gold went to Paige Fogg and Breanne Babichuk of Invermay with YRHS taking the silver.

In mixed doubles: Canora took on Norquay and Sacred Heart took on Sturgis in the semi-finals. Norquay and Sacred Heart moved on to the final where Riana Skikewich and Justin Guy of Sacred Heart defeated Tanis Bork and Elijah Rayner of Norquay to win gold.

SHHS went to Kamsack on April 18 to play in the KCI Senior Badminton Tournament.

The girls' doubles team of Christina Mentankow and Chelsey Yesnik were in a tough pool, but played some great games despite not advancing to the playoffs.

The mixed duo of Chloe Mrozrowich and Zach Todos faced the eventual gold-medal winners in the first round. So they did not advance to the playoffs.

The girls' doubles team of Allison Kruger and Shayla Merriam brought home a bronze medal.

The boys' doubles team of Derek Marshall and Kris Pidperyhora fought their way to a well-deserved silver.

Morgan Shymanski brought home a silver medal in girls' singles.
