Saskatoon Blades win streak continues

SASKATOON — The Saskatoon Blades' win streak continued in Western Hockey League action last week.

The Saskatoon Blades have won six straight games and nine of their last 10, as of Sunday. They boasted a 21-5-0-0 record and sat tied for second in the WHL’s Eastern Conference.

Last Saturday the Blades rolled past the host Prince Albert Raiders, 9-0. Austin Elliott stopped all 25 shots sent his way en route to recording his second career WHL shutout.

Nine Blades recorded at least a point. Brandon Lisowsky led the way with three goals and four points. Also scoring for Saskatoon were Egor Sidorov (two), Lukas Hansen (two), Vaughn Watterodt, and Conner Roulette. Trevor Wong and Aidan De La Gorgendiere each had three assists.

Tikhon Chaika started in net for the Raiders. He stopped 22 of 28 shots. Max Hildebrand came on in relief and made 10 saves on 13 shots.

On Dec. 6, Roulette’s overtime goal lifted the Blades to a 5-4 win over the visiting Brandon Wheat Kings. The hosts had led 2-1 after the first period. Justin Lies and Roulette had Saskatoon’s goals, while Calder Anderson countered for the Wheat Kings. In the second period, Tyler Parr and Jayden Wiens scored for Saskatoon, which held a 4-2 lead, while Rylen Roersma had Brandon’s goals.

Brett Hyland and Jake Chiasson had third period goals to knot the contest at 4-4.

Ethan Chadwick made 16 saves for the Blades. For the Wheat Kings, Nicholas Jones turned away 25 of the 30 shots he faced.

The Blades host the Medicine Hat Tigers on Tuesday and the Spokane Chiefs on Friday. They play the Pats in Regina on Saturday.
