Saskatoon Blades hope to turn tables on Winnipeg

The Saskatoon Blades are looking to make a comeback in the Western Hockey League Eastern Conference finals against the Winnipeg Ice. So far, they have lost the first two games in the series.

The Saskatoon Blades are behind 2-0 in the Western Hockey League Eastern Conference finals against the Winnipeg Ice.

SASKATOON — The Saskatoon Blades are looking to battle back in the Western Hockey League Eastern Conference finals.

As of April 30, the Blades trailed the Winnipeg Ice, 2-0, in the series. On home ice, the Winnipeg squad won the first two contests by scores of 3-0 and 6-2.

The rest of the schedule for the series is:

  • Game 3: May 2 in Saskatoon
  • Game 4: May3 in Saskatoon
  • Game 5: May 5 in Winnipeg
  • Game 6: May 7 in Saskatoon
  • Game 7: May 9 in Winnipeg

 

Game 1

April 28
Ice 3, Blades 0

The host Ice outshot the Blades, 28-16, on their way to a 3-0 victory. Winnipeg goalie Daniel Hauser turned away all 16 of Saskatoon shots.

In the first period, Ben Zloty scored for the Ice at the 14:39 mark. At 16:05 of the first, Zack Ostapchuk found the back of the net on a penalty shot that came while the Ice were shorthanded. Carson Lambos scored the game’s final goal at 7:45 in the second period.

Blades netminder Ethan Chadwick made 25 saves.

 

Game 2

April 29
Ice 6, Blades 2

The Ice scored two goals in each period to grab a 2-0 series lead. The Blades scored twice in the third period. Doing the honours were Justin Lies and Jayden Wiens.

For Winnipeg, Connor McClennon recorded a hat trick. He scored the first two goals of the contest. Zach Benson, Owen Pederson, and Matthew Savoie also found the back of the net.

Hauser stopped 27 of the 29 shots he faced. For the Blades, Austin Elliott made 27 saves on 32 Ice shots. Savoie’s goal was into an empty net.
