WADENA - The Rosebud Royals Association will now have a third team competing in league play this season.
The U13 version of the Royals, based in Wadena, has entered the Rawlings Saskatchewan Grand Slam Boys Softball League.
Last year the same boys entered one tournament and provincials in the U12 age group as a trial run for the program. Now with Softball Saskatchewan and Canada altering the age groups, the same group is entering the province-wide U13 league, and has committed to the four weekend league.
The boys have already been running indoor training sessions all winter and are excited to start the outdoor season May 14-15 with their first league day in Prince Albert with aspirations to qualify and return there July 30 - August 1 for the Western Canadians.
The men’s version of the Royals has been around since 1970 and is hosting their 50th anniversary July 1-2, which has been delayed two years due to COVID-19.
The men play in the Richardson Pioneer Men’s Fastball League in the area, while the Rosebud Junior Royals (U20) play in the Saskatoon Amateur Softball Association Men’s league with most of their players now in post-secondary education in Saskatoon.
More details about the Rosebud Royals and Junior Royals will be announced in the coming weeks.
