Friday afternoon at St. Michael's school was a good day for anyone with any type of a dream looking for a little motivation to try and fulfill that dream.
A small gathering of the school's senior students during the final period of the day took in a presentation by Olympic and Commonwealth Games track and field coach Carla Nicholls.
Ms. Nicholls had made headlines earlier this year when she came to the aid of a Nigerian athlete who had collapsed.
Ms. Nicholls has been credited with saving a life.
She came to St. Michael's to talk to a class about the importance of having goals and how good it feels to achieve them.
Ms. Nicholls had the experience of taking part in the Beijing Olympics as a track coach and said it likely would not have happened had she not been involved in track and field coaching.
"You don't have to be an athlete to go to the Olympics," seemed to be her underlying message.
She added that she's been to "quite a few schools" talking on the subject and the general response she gets from the kids is "they're more in awe" of her experiences.
Her hour-long presentation included several slideshows of her time in Beijing and was followed by a question/answer period.
Ms. Nicholls was brought to the school by her niece who attends St. Michael's.
