Yorkton hosted the 17U Women Sask. Cup this past weekend at the Gallagher Centre and St. Michael's School.

The Regina Volleyball Club 17U Gold defeated the Regina QCVC in two sets (25-20, 25-18) in the final to take the tournament.

The Wakaw Warriors trumped the Saskatoon Serious Impact in three sets (20-25, 25-20, 15-9) in the tier-1 bronze medal game.

The Yorkton Blitz 17U led the way among the three hometown squads, finishing in third spot in the tier-2 division.

"The girls played well on the weekend, but were still shaking off some rust as this was the first tournament of the season," says Bryce Krawetz, head coach of the Yorkton Blitz 17U. "The team was in tough starting in the power pool (meaning the top four teams from last year's provincials)."

Krawetz went on to note that his team's inconsistent play sealed their fate.

"The team just needs to play complete matches instead of portions of each match, when you are against some of the best teams in the province, you have to play a complete game to get the win."

The Yorkton Blitz Storm 16U finished in sixth spot in the tier-2 division.

The Yorkton McSweeney's finished in top spot in the tier-3 division. They defeated the Weyburn Elites in three sets (25-22, 15-25, 15-11) in the gold medal game.
