Yorkton's Deer Park Golf Course played host to the sixth annual Deer Park Men's Open this past Saturday and Sunday for a two day men's golf tournament.
But while the competition itself was strong, the amount of golfers competing, a paltry 38 in total, was not. "It's actually a very disappointing number for us this year," offered Deer Park Men's Club President Cliff Trombley, who cited vacations, weddings and other family commitments for regular members as reasons for the lack of golfers that took part in the tournament.
And although the numbers were down this year, Trombley still feels that everyone who participated left Deer Park satisfied. "The participants that were here had an awesome time," suggested the Club President. "We had lots of fun, a lot of fellowship and it was a great time with some great golf being played."
Trombley also mentioned that, despite the lower number of golfers participating this year, the tournament still managed to raise a good amount of money for course upgrades. "We don't have the exact total yet but I'm expecting it to be somewhere in the seven to ten-thousand dollar range," said Trombley, continuing, "and while that's not as much as we've raised in past years it's still a good amount of money."
