The Pee Wee Gridders played Weyburn in the second game of a triple bill at Century Field on Sunday afternoon and they collected the second straight victory by locals.
The Atom Gridders, a group of 9-10 year old won the opening game Sunday by beating up on the Canadians.
Following that game, the Pee Wees took to the field aiming for a victory and that's what they got.
"It was a good week of preparation," says head coach Noel Budz.
"The boys practiced hard."
The victory came to a tune of 36-0 nothing and Budz took part in what was probably the easiest post game he's ever had.
"This Regina league is one of the better leagues. This team had a big, strong fullback. They were a good team."
Yorkton got on the scoreboard early then never took their foot off of the gas pedal. "That's our game plan, right off the beginning. Don't slow down."
The shutout win now has the Pee Wees even in the Regina Minor Football League standings at 2-2.
Budz says it's not quite party time yet.
"It's going to be tough," he said of the remainder of the football season, which will see the team play only one more regular season home game, that on Sept. 22.
When the team scores 36 points in one game, picking the recipient of the game helmet should be an easy one.
Not this one, according to Budz.
"I think there could be about 27 guys (who could get it)," but added that coach Hull should get one along with Jordan Lys.
STANDINGS
The already tight standing in the Pee Wee division of the Regina Minor Football Association just got a little tighter following the Gridder win.
Yorkton is now sandwiched in with the Patriots and the Unicorns who each have two wins also. Weyburn, the Razorbacks and the Estevan Chargers have one win apiece, right below Yorkton.
Top spot in the division is occupied by the Mustangs and the Golden Hawks.
