The Yorkton DQ Grill and Chill Pee Wee A Terriers headed to Warman Sunday for game two of the two-game total goal provincial ‘C’ final.

The Terriers had lost game one of the series on home ice 6-2, creating a formidable hill to climb, but they gave it a gallant try.

“It was incredibly close. It was such a fun series,” said Yorkton coach Jason Gordon. “You put the top two teams in that age category together on the ice you knew it was going to go right down to the end.”

Aided by a pair of short-handed goals only 20-seconds apart, Yorkton led the contest 4-1 after 40-minutes of play.

And the Terriers had a five-on-three powerplay to start the third period.

Gordon said they had an opportunity with the advantage but a goal eluded Yorkton.

And Drake managed to spring one of the players coming out of the penalty box and he went into score to make it 4-2.

“That goal sort of settled them (Drake), down,” he said, adding the Terriers “started to grip their sticks a bit harder” realizing their job had gotten harder.

Gordon said his team showed some definite pride the rest of the way.

“They were driven to make sure we won the game,” he said, which they did 4-3, but losing the overall series 9-6.

Garin Lammers led the offence for Yorkton with a pair of goals, with Colton Hubric and Matthew Herzog scoring singles.

Gordon said in provincials the Terriers won five games, losing only one, they simply lost the one by too large a margin.
