Old photograph creates memories of former Kamsack hockey team

Margaret Waselenko of Pelly submitted an old photograph of a hockey team saying the newspaper might be interested in seeing it, but she knows little else about the picture.

This is a photograph of a hockey team that was submitted to this newspaper recently. Using the signatures on its paper frame and the memories of a couple Kamsack residents, the people were identified as follows: (from left, back row) Arnold Thompson, Jim Trueman, Don Foreman, Frank Hoskin, Jack Banks, Dick Hamilton, Barry Lipsett, John G. Banks, Sandy Marteniuk and unidentified; (middle row) three unidentified and Brad Foreman, and (bottom row) Garry Trueman and unidentified.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The photograph is of 13 young men, probably all in their teens and all wearing jerseys containing the logo: 鈥淯se Co-op Products.鈥 Three men in suits are at the back of the group.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 It is believed the photograph was taken in the mid to late 1940s.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The cardboard frame around the photograph contains 11 names, most of which are probably signatures. The names are: Sandy Marteniuk, Dick Hamilton, Frank Haskin, Arnold Thompson, J.G. Banks, W. Gustafson, J. Banks, B. Lipsett, Garry Trueman, B.J.E. Harvey and J.A. Trueman.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Evelyn Banks of Kamsack, who recognized her late husband and his father in the photograph, took the photograph to Jim Konkin who helped her identify the bulk of the people in the photograph, which is being turned over to the history room at the Kamsack library.
