Despite old man winter wreaking havoc on the upcoming Yorkton Regional High School football camps, the show must go on, but not in the way sports director Roby Sharpe originally hoped it would.

"Because we still have a lot of snow, we have had to make some changes to our upcoming football camps on April 26 and 27," said Sharpe. "It's disappointing, but that's how the weather goes sometimes."

Winnipeg Bluebombers long-snapper/linebacker Jordan Matechuk, who is a Yorkton native, is still holding a camp on Saturday, April 27, but it has been shortened. Instead of holding a full-day camp, Matechuk will be running a two-hour strength and conditioning session from 1-3 p.m.

"It's tradition for Matechuk to hold a camp in Yorkton," said Sharpe. "It's too bad it won't be as long as past years, but it is still good we have him to teach strength and conditioning."

Although Matechuk's CFL career might get in the way, Sharpe hopes to bring him back to Yorkton when the snow clears up for a longer camp.

"It would be nice to get him to hold a longer camp in May or so," he said. "But we know it will be tough with his CFL camps starting up then."

In addition, former CFL running back Craig Carr will be holding a two-hour mini camp designed for running backs from 4-6 p.m. on Friday, April 26.

"It's great to have Carr come down and pass down some knowledge to our running backs and those interested in the position," said Sharpe. "I use to play with him at the University of Manitoba, so that's how we were able to get him to come down to Yorkton."

All ages are invited to attend the free, noncontact football camps. All that is needed is a pair of running shoes. To sign up or for more information contact Roby Sharpe at 306-786-5569.

Matechuk and Carr, as well as Saskatchewan Roughriders head coach Corey Chamblin, will speak at Football Night in Saskatchewan on Saturday, April 27 at St. Mary's Cultural Center.
