The MC Knoll grade 7-8 boys and Yorkton Regional High School grade 9-10 girls held their eighth annual basketball battle of the sexes on Thursday, February 14.
The boys bested the girls, taking the match 42-19.
"It was a lot of fun," said MC Knoll head coach Mark Schendel. "The game was fun and it was just a great atmosphere. Both schools look forward to the basketball battle of the sexes every year."
Leading up to the game, the schools raised money for Pink Out, a breast cancer research charity. They sold $15 t-shirts and accepted donations. As of Feb. 15, they raised roughly $2770.
"We are really happy with the money we've raised," said Schendel on Feb. 15. "We have sold 178 of our 200 t-shirts that raise money for breast cancer research. We hope to sell our other 22 quickly. All of the money goes to breast cancer research because our sponsors covered the costs of the shirts. We have also been accepting donations. People have donated over one hundred dollars so far."
It has been tradition for the schools to intertwine a great cause with the basketball battle of the sexes' game. In past years, the schools have raised donations for several different charities, including Telemiracle and SPCA.
"We use the game every year to do some great things for charities," said Schendel "In previous years we have done a shoot-a-thon. We had the shooters raise pledges that would go to a charity. We raised seven hundred dollars for Telemiracle one year. And we raised seven hundred dollars for SPCA another year."
