Jason Boyda's Yorkdale Central Public School boys' basketball team have seen an awful lot of action over the past 7-10 days.

It started at the Yorkton Regional High School one week ago, and then concluded at Yorkdale over the weekend.

Yorkdale Central School hosted a six-team boys' basketball tournament over the weekend.

Yorkdale #1 had no problem finishing first in their respective pool as they beat Dauphin, and Regina.

"They are really aggressive on the boards," indicates coach Boyda.

"They do a good job moving the ball up the court."

Yorkdale #2 finished second in their pool losing to Langenburg by two points and defeating Dauphin.

Yorkdale #2 lost to Regina in the third place game to finish fourth. The championship game featured Yorkdale #1 vs. Langenburg.

The Royals took a quick 8-0 lead but let Langenburg fight its way back to tie the game at 8-8.

Boyda told the paper that something clicked after the game was tied at Royal Blue took full control from thereon in.

"We had the driver's seat from there," he said.

At that point, the Royals picked it up a notch and didn't look back as they controlled the game from then on till the last buzzer sounded winning easily 49-18.

"It was an easy victory, less stressful."

Boyda said the next game for the Yorkdale boys team will be the East Central Districts playoffs, while the girls team will be playing at the Yorkton Regional High School.

He said the weekend tournament wasn't a big test even though they hadn't seen much of the Dauphin team before.

Boyda said it would be awesome to take on the YRHS junior boys team, whom he said, took them back to school, last Wednesday night on Regional territory.

He said they ran into all kinds of offensive trouble with the Raiders' size.

Boyda also said his team ran into trouble playing on a court surface much bigger than what they play on at home.

"Our shots from the free throw line were pretty good," adds Boyda.

This past weekend the Lady Royals travelled to Sturgis for a tournament. They beat Preeceville and Sturgis to send them to the championship game. In the final, the girls' opponent was Kamsack.

They gave a tremendous effort but fell short in the end, and finished second in the tournament, coach Boyda closed. The Yorkdale girls are scheduled to practice today at 3:45 p.m.
