The Regina Riot of the Western Women's Canadian Football League held an interest camp at the end of October.
Cynthia Wolkowski of Yorkton was among those who took part in the event.
Wolkowski said it was an opportunity to cross train running/jogging skills and try and incorporate them into the numerous skills required to play football.
"The reason why I decided to give football a try was because I was at a run in Regina and there was a flyer advertising a ladies football camp. And me, being the adventurous type, gave it some thought and decided to challenge myself and cross-train within my running schedule."
Training for football meant an early morning.
"So there I was, getting up at 5:30 am on Oct. 13 and on my way to Mosaic Stadium at Taylor Field Regina to learn something about the game of football."
She said it was fun and was enough to make her decide that she wants to do it again, only in a real game-like atmosphere.
"It was an exciting day and I have gained so much knowledge about football and appreciate the sport more because of my first-hand experience of what the players go through.
Learning the skills involved in playing the game gives a person a chance to channel their aggressive side, a side I found to myself that day."
The camp ended with scrimmage games which incorporated the skills that were taught throughout the day.
With a successful inaugural season in 2011, theWWCFLis the first all women's inter provincial tackle football league in western Canada.
