It's been quite the month for Yorkton's Jeff Sharp.
The current resident of Saskatoon represented Rosetown late last month in the northern curling championships in Nipawin.
Sharp and his curling team of Carl deConick Smith, Chris Haichert and Jesse St. John made their way all the way to the end and won the bonspiel.
Then they advanced to Assiniboia where they competed in the provincial playdowns, more recently.
It didn't start out well for the native of Yorkton.
He fell sick to the flu and missed all of the first game, and that included having him spend time in a Swift Current hospital.
He said he missed a lot of team activity, including meetings and some crucial practices.
For an individual heart set on winning the bonspiel, spending any amount of time in a hospital was obviously not part of his plans.
"We wanted to win," he said after the fact.
Rather than finishing first, Sharp and his crew wound up fourth.
Sharp missed some team meetings and some practices, but they would win the first game and went on to play in the 3 vs 4 game.
He said the team used a spare for the opening draw, which they won, and they looked pretty good as the bonspiel progressed, but a bad twist of fate sent the Rosetown crew home packing when they met up with a southern Saskatchewan club.
He said it fell apart in the third end.
"One of the skip's rocks hit something," he said, adding that the turn of events swung four points the other way and sunk the demonic Smith's rink's chances of going all the way. Sharp added that it was one of the worst things that can happen during a game.
"There's never a good time for it to happen. It's tough to come back from." The setback had demonic finish in fourth place, bringing their competitive season to an end.
