Discussions of lights going up at the LDM area tennis court go back to prior to the hosting of the 2000 Saskatchewan Summer Games.
Through the years, members, visitors, parents and tennis partners have expressed desire to extend the tennis season each year by adding lighting to the LDM facility within Yorkton's city limits. Of particular interest were the early evening hours in the spring and fall. The tennis club began seeking those enhancements.
Just in time for the 'Let There Be Light' tennis club event held in late September, the lighting fixtures went up. The day involved tennis in the early evening hours, food, followed by tennis until as late as 10 p.m.
The Tennis Club does not have any permanent funding. All expenditures come from fundraising or donations and some intermittent grant funding.
The Tennis Club is grateful to and proud of all of the people, businesses, agencies and local governance for support of this project. Particular commendation goes to our donors for the money, equipment, labour and expertise. There was no way for this project without your efforts.
The Tennis Club has supplied tennis equipment to Yorkton and area. Contributions include: nets, posts, court hardware, umpire chairs, windscreens, court mats, cleaning gear, a ball machine, practice cages, youth and adult beginner racquets, demonstration equipment, two (2) racquet stringing machines and a good supply of various tennis balls (both indoor and outdoor).
The Tennis Club has encouraged the participation of play, that of youth, adult female, adult male, families, as well as visitors to the area, and any newcomers.
The Tennis Club has also worked with Tennis Saskatchewan to respond to tennis learning requests from the area. With a major effort, the Tennis Club has arranged for the return of provincial-level tennis tournaments to Yorkton.
