The Sacred Heart Lady Saints basketball team kicked off the New Year with a bang by going 2-1 in Moosomin on January 4 and 5.
The Saints dominated Esterhazy in their opening match on Friday, taking it 77-34. Connor Rusluk played an excellent defensive game with several steals and Shayla Merriam lead the team in points with 24. Hillary Black also had a strong game, notching 12 points from the floor.
In their second contest against Rocanville, the Saints came out on top 45-29 after a slow start. Morgan Shymanski and Hanna Hansen had strong showings in the victory.
Sacred Heart took on Virden in their final game of the tourney in the A-side final. Their opponents came out flying, taking an early lead. The Saints battled back, but they were unable to make up the difference, losing 67-43.
The Lady Saints head to Vanier Collegiate in Moose Jaw next weekend for a major tournament before hosting their own tourney on Jan. 19. They also have a home exhibition game against Roblin on Jan. 24.
