The Yorkton Regional High School Senior Lady Raiders and Sacred Heart High School Senior Lady Saints couldn't wait to get out of Swift Current this past weekend. The Raiders lost all three of their matches and the Saints mustered one win and two losses in the eight-team basketball tournament.
The Raiders opened the tourney with a 40-47 loss to Moose Jaw.
Despite coming up short on the scoreboard, Alba Conck, Rebecca Mclaren, and Brandey Blahut had strong performances.
The Regional quickly fell behind Estevan in their second contest, going into the second half down by 12. They played catch up in the latter half, narrowing Estevan's lead down to two at one point. But their effort was short of a victory, losing 39-47.
The Raiders' third match against Shaunavon was a nail bitter. The game was close right 'till the end, but they gave up a basket in the last minute to lose 39-41.
Meanwhile, the Saints faced off against Weyburn in their opening contest on Friday, dropping it 32-57. They started strong, but fell behind in the latter half when Weyburn found their grove from the perimeter.
Sacred Heart came up big in their second game against Shaunavon, taking it 65-52. Their victory can be credited to their much-improved shooting.
The Saints wrapped up their tourney against Estevan in the B-side consolation. It was a very physical game that entailed a lot of battles for rebounds. The game was close up until the third quarter when Estevan pulled away, going on to take the match 61-39.
Saints' Shayla Merriam, Morgan Shymanski, and Katilin Inglis were their leading scorers in the tourney.
The Saints and Raiders are now on holidays until January.
