The Sacred Heart High School's junior football team took to the field last Wednesday to play in what was their final match of the 2010-2011 season.
The team, dubbed a developmental team, by head coach Darcy Todos, took on the Melville Comprehensive School Cobras in Saskatchewan High School Athletics Association action.
The Sacred Heart team came up short in the game but had a skill session over the weekend and invited other teams to take part in it.
Coach Todos said it was an opportunity to give each member of the team more playing time. The team also had a good sized roster. Coaches expect that most of them will join the senior team next season.
He added that despite liking the way the team has been playing lately, the football festival will be an opportunity to put into practice what they have been learning in the game experience.
"In terms of the game" says Todos, "we had a pretty good showing in the first half," he said following the Melville game.
The loss pinned the Saints league record at 2-2.
"We had a few missed blocks and tackles" in the second half of the Melville game.
In response to the coming-along of the developmental team, Todos replied, "good" adding that he "definitely sees it as the years go on".
The junior football team was made up of Gr. 9 students at Sacred Heart High School as well as Gr. 8 students from around the Christ the Teacher Catholic School Division.
