Layne Hull is British Columbia-bound this summer for junior football.

The former Yorkton Regional High School Raider Gridders linebacker doesn't, however, know which team he will be playing for in the British Columbia Football Conference just yet. He already has been told by the Kamloops Broncos that he has made the team, but he is still waiting to hear from the Okanagan Sun.

"If I make Okanogan, I'll probably end up going there," said Hull, who will play linebacker at the junior level. "I think that would be the best option for me. But if not, I'll go play for Kamloops. They are also a good program and I'll have a lot of opportunity there."

One of the reasons Hull would prefer to play for the Sun is that he has family in the Kelowna area, where the team plays.

"My auntie and uncle live in Kelowna," said Hull. "It will be so much cheaper for me to play in the Okanagan because I can live with them. It's also nice to know someone there and to have family to rely on."

Hull's high school football coach, Roby Sharpe, also believes Okanagan is the best for him.

"Kamloops is looking at him to be a starter," he said. "He's a good player and all, but I think it would be better for him to sit on the bench for a year and play some special teams, while learning the system. Okanagan is a bit of a better program, too. And it makes it easier on him to have family there like he has in Kelowna."

The process of trying out for the Sun and Broncos was straightforward for Hull.

"We (my family) drove up there for a week a couple weeks ago and went to Kamloops and Okanagan's camps," he said. "They were just short two-day spring camps. I learned new drills and we did a lot of basic drills a the camps."

Playing junior football has been a goal of Hull's for quite some time.

"I knew when I was playing for the Gridders that I wanted to go play junior ball," said Hull. "This is something I've thought about for a while. I love football and wanted to extend my career to junior ball."

Sharpe fully expected Hull to play in the junior ranks after being one of his most dominant players last season.

"He's a great player," said Sharpe. "He did everything for us. He played linebacker, slot, fullback, and he was our kicker. He was one of our go-to guys. He plays hard and is as tough as they come. I'm happy to see him go on to play in B.C."

Before he heads to B.C., Hull has a vigorous workout planned to help him get in shape for the season.

"I'm going to work out and run as much as I can," said Hull. "I'm also going to eat healthy and keep junk food out of my diet. I want to gain some muscle and get a little faster."

Down the road, Hull isn't ruling out playing university football once he has a couple seasons of junior ball under his belt.

"School isn't really my thing, but university ball is something I'd definitely consider in the future," he said. "I want football to take me as far as it can."
