The Parkland Racing Association (PRA) was able to hold their second day of stock car races this season.
PRA president Dustin Heddon said it's a sign that the weather (at least on Sundays), has been co-operating with them so far this season.
The only concern thus far he said, has been containing the amounts of dust that flies all over the track when drivers slam on the brakes.
On June 24, the Yellowhead International Speedway held their second race day of the summer and Heddon estimates that about 90 spectators turned out.
He said it was a little less than the 100 or so that came out on June 3, but noted that was probably because of the demolition derby on June 1, and also likely because he said they didn't do much advertising for Sunday's race.
Heddon himself has a car running this year, the second straight for his Buick LeSabre, which he has a new driver for this year.
Robin Everett of Melville was driving the LeSabre during Sunday's race, says Heddon.
"He ended up winning the features," he notes.
Heddon says Everett likes it so far and the two work on the car together, he adds.
The car runs on about 300 horsepower and is currently into its second season on the stock car circuit.
"It's dependable," says Heddon. "It's got a strong little motor, full frame car."
He added that his goal for the season is "getting the car running at 100 per cent." There are plans in the works for a bigger show for the July race, says Heddon, who plans to hold a kids race during the day.
