The Yorkton Harvest scored both of their goals on the power play as they fought to a 2-2 with the Regina Pat Canadians in Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League preseason action over the weekend.
At the Doug Wickenheiser Arena in Regina on Saturday, Levi Morin opened the scoring halfway through the middle frame with Donovan Lumb drawing the lone assist.
Regina's Troy Murray tallied five minutes later to pull even.
The opening period went by without any goalscoring or penalties assessed.
In the third frame, Jayden Halbgewachs scored shorthanded for the Canadians before Yorkton's Carson Cayer drew even for the Harvest nine seconds later from Braydon Kayter to even the score at 2-2.
Yorkton had 12 power play opportunities throughout the game. Regina had nine chances and couldn't cash in, but did tally one with their own player in the penalty box.
Harvest netminder Spencer Bomboir stopped 38 of the 40 shots he faced and was named the game's 1st Star.
REGULAR SEASON
The SMAAAHL gets back to business for real on the weekend when the regular season kicks off around the league. Yorkton is scheduled to open up at home this year when they face the Contacts of Saskatoon in a weekend homestand Saturday and Sunday. Both games are at the Farrell Agencies Arena. Saturday at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday at 3 p.m.
