Harvest forward Corwin Stevely lets go a wrister in third period action Sunday against Beardy's Blawkhawks goalie Taryn Phaneuf.

The Yorkton Midget AAA Harvest gave its floundering season a bit of a boost last weekend taking a pair of games from Beardy's Blackhawks at Farrell Agencies Arena.

Going into the weekend double header Saturday night, the Harvest were in second last place with just three wins in 14 games. With a sweep of the last place Blackhawks, 5-2 Saturday and 5-3 Sunday, Yorkton's boys surpassed the Notre Dame Hounds to secure third last place just two points behind Swift Current.

On Saturday, Yorkton came out hard in the first period popping in two goals by Korwin Shewchuk and Carson Cayer less than a minute apart at 7:47 and 6:56. The Blawkhawks got back in it, though, on a power play with just 30 seconds to go in the opening frame.

The second period was all Yorkton as they added three more marks to the board. Jaden Kreklewich and Brandon Kayter were the scorers of two of the goals while Cayer added a second to his game stats.

The Blackhawks managed another score late in the third period, but it was way too little too late.

Yorkton goalie Carson Bogdan, who blocked 21 shots and fought off nine power plays, got the nod as the Home Star of the game. Beardy's Cameron Preymack took Away Star honours.

On Sunday, it looked like the Harvest was going to dominate Beardy's badly as the home team opened up a 3-0 first period lead on goals by Kreklewich, Logan Herchak and Landon Nichol.

The Blackhawks roared back in the second, pounding the Yorkton twine with three goals of their own.

With 2:36 to play, Lynndon Pastachak put Yorkton back in the lead with what would prove to be the game winner.

There were a few tense moments bringing the win home, however. With just over a minute left and the Blackhawks pressing hard at the home end of the ice, Beardy's pulled goalie Taryn Phaneuf adding the pressure of a sixth skater to a valiant last minute attack.

With less than a minute to go, the Harvest's Ethan Bear managed to dig the puck loose and put it on Pastachak's stick. Pastachak added the empty-netter from way downtown for his second notch of the night from Bear.

Sunday's stars were Herchak for the home team and Carson Boehm for the visitors. Boehm was involved in all of the Blackhawks' goals, scoring one and assisting on the other two.
