After outscoring the opposition by a 20-1 margin over the course of the tournament, the Sacred Heart team advanced to provincials with two wins on their home pitch Saturday afternoon.
"Sacred Heart and Humboldt both advance to the Provincial tournament which will be held next weekend Oct 26 - Oct 27 in Saskatoon. Both victories for Sacred Heart were total team efforts as the girls 'showed up to play' - they came with attitude and intensity," says coach Jeanne Fetsch.
There was a scheduled photo session for the members of the team Monday at school, she said.
Also competing at the 2A Regionals was the Yorkton Regional (High School), Balgonie and Humboldt.
It was also the second time this season the Lady Saints got to play at home. From here they move on to Saskatoon where coach Fetsch suggests will not be nearly as easy as Regionals was. The opening match put them up against the Yorkton Regional and the score was off the wall. Rita Fetsch scored six goals, Kaylee Ford and Bryce Sherring each had a pair and Kristen Jonassen had one.
Amy Prybylski got the shutout in net.
In the battle of the out-of-towners, Humboldt had their way with Balgonie in an 8-1 rout.
Mackenzie Mueller tallied four goal, Taylor Wittke had a pair and Kelsey Kuka and Carley Lesseny had one each.That meant Humboldt would meet the Saints in the final. Rita Fetsch scored four goals, Morgan Shymanski scored a hat trick, Ford and Sherring each had one.Wittke had her second of the tournament for Humboldt. Coach Fetsch said she noticed that the Regional and Humboldt both had trouble containing the Saints' ability to move the ball.
"It was difficult for both opponents to contain the speed of forwards Bryce Sherring, Rita Fetsch and Kaylee Ford."
The defensive corps made life easy for goalkeeper Prybylski, observes Fetsch.
"Defenders, in particular Connor Rosluk, Kristen Jonassen, and Katie Inglis (despite an injury) didn't allow an attack to initiate very often)."
NEXT
The provincial ranking/seeding will be announced early this upcoming week. Defending champions Saskatoon Bishop Mahoney will be a force at this year's provincial as will last year's silver medalists Notre Dame.
"The Saints, who were bronze medalists last year are hoping to repeat a medal performance," notes coach.
