Fourteen four-person teams are signed-up with the Kamsack Curling Club and enjoy curling at the Broda Sportsplex each Thursday night.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淭hat鈥檚 two rinks fewer than we had last year, but some of those 14 rinks are new to the club,鈥 said Kevin Chutskoff, president of the Kamsack Curling Club.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淲e curl at 7 p.m. and at 9 p.m.,鈥 he said. 鈥淥ur wind-up bonspiel will be played March 31, April 1 and 2.鈥
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The club was to host a special players鈥 clinic yesterday (January 27) for beginners and for seasoned curlers.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Sponsored by Affinity Credit Union, the clinic was part of CurlSask鈥檚 program entitled Affinity Credit Union Curling in Your Community, said Amber Holland, executive director of CurlSask.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淲ayne Kiel, the provincial high performance coach, who has many years experience in coaching curling, was the instructor for the Kamsack clinic,鈥 Holland said. Gerald Shymko of Calder, a past Brier competitor, helped as the clinic鈥檚 鈥渃elebrity coach.鈥
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The clinic was basically aimed at getting people out, playing the sport, Holland said. 鈥淚t aimed to help make people better curlers and to provide the opportunity for new curlers to get started with good instruction, covering the basics including how to deliver a stone and brushing.
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淭he clinic was a good opportunity for people to experience the sport,鈥 she said. 鈥淎nyone at any age can curl. You don鈥檛 have to be the best, but you can come out and have fun.鈥
聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The clinic was to last about two hours, Chutskoff said. Following the instruction, pizza and refreshments were served.
