Footballer lands big scholarship

A Yorkton high-schooler is riding his considerable football skills to a college education in a new province. Matthew Balysky has scored a full football scholarship from Queen鈥檚 University in Kingston, Ontario.

A Yorkton high-schooler is riding his considerable football skills to a college education in a new province.

Matthew Balysky has scored a full football scholarship from Queen鈥檚 University in Kingston, Ontario. Balysky will play and study there in the autumn.

Balysky, who played wide receiver for the Yorkton Regional High School football team, is thrilled with this huge opportunity.

鈥淚t鈥檚 really exciting,鈥 he said. 鈥淜ind of nerve-wracking since it鈥檚 so far away.鈥

Jason Boyda, Balysky鈥檚 football coach, circulated Balysky鈥檚 highlight tape to recruiters. Before long, he captured the attention of Queen鈥檚 University.

鈥淸He] caught the scouts鈥 eyes,鈥 Boyda said. 鈥淸It鈥檒l be a] great football experience.鈥

Balysky is eager to start working with a new football team and to begin his university studies.

鈥淚t鈥檚 a fresh start,鈥 he said. 鈥淎 chance to make new friends.鈥

Balysky plans to study nursing while he attends Queen鈥檚 University.
