Family Fitness doing fine

It's not big, but it's doing the job. Since the summertime fire at Heiser's, it's gotten a lot busier, too, says Curt McCoshen, owner of Yorkton's Family Fitness on Third Avenue.

It's not big, but it's doing the job.

Since the summertime fire at Heiser's, it's gotten a lot busier, too, says Curt McCoshen, owner of Yorkton's Family Fitness on Third Avenue.

During a recent sit-down interview with the paper, McCoshen talked about how business went literally sky high following the fire that destroyed the gym that was located two streets over.

He said the phones at his gym started ringing off the hook every 15 minutes from people interested in purchasing memberships at Yorkton Family Fitness.

"I thought it would have been for the money," he says in response to the question of how he got into the business. After the fire, it wasn't about money, but moreso a lack of being able to handle the highly-increased amount of business, which he has to look after on his own.

"The phone rang every 15 minutes after the fire," he told Yorkton This Week, sounding like it happened only a day or two ago.

"I felt badly that we had to turn people away. People were desperate to get in.

Yorkton needs another gym," he added.

He said it's his goal to create a place where people can come and workout and not have any line-ups to worry about or busy, crowded areas.

His gym is small but it's doing the job, he says. The gym also offers personal trainers, says McCoshen. The idea of possible expansion has crossed his mind however the time and manpower needed to do it just aren't there at the moment, he said.
