You may recall Legacy Discs from the first review of 2012.

They are a new manufacturer on the disc golf scene, and the Cannon reviewed a few weeks ago impressed by the way it handled the seemingly always present Saskatchewan wind.

This week its Legacy's distance driver, the Rampage which I will be looking at.

The love affair with the Cannon did not extend to the Rampage, at least for me.

I'm a backhand thrower, and will admit at 52 I am not the big thrower. I rely on a steady drive, and good approach at Patrick Park Golf Course.

The Rampage, and that includes two versions, the Protége in 171 grams and the 175 gram Pinnacle Edition, just never performed well enough for me that I would carry them in my bag.

But, I have often stated here discs are very much a tool of personal preference.

So I handed the discs to my son, a tall young man with a forehand that gets him distance, and lots of it.

The Pinnacle Edition Rampage has quickly become his favoured driver.

It is an example of where, if possible, you should borrow a disc and give it a try before purchasing, although good discs at under $20 each can be bought on a whim too without impacting the pocket too much.

In this case I would not have purchased the Rampage.

My son, on the other hand, has a disc he is using almost exclusively off the tee now.

Whether it is the forehand motion, my forehand is at best generally pitiful, or the greater strength of youth which makes the Rampage work is unclear, since I have nothing else to compare its performance too, but if you fit as a forehand thrower with some power, just give the Rampage a try.

The Legacy website suggests arm strength is the key factor.

"The Rampage is a high speed over stable driver Designed for those with greater arm speed, Rampage is faster than anything you've previously thrown. Extremely quick off the tee, with a slight turn as it glides, the Rampage finishes strong at the end of its flight. Definitely for the power thrower," it details.

So backhanders, you might want to check out the earlier Cannon review.

The two discs fit different throwers and speaks to Legacy wanting to offer something for all throwers.

They have a new mid range and putter coming I do look forward to exploring in the future.
