If there was one disc in 2012 I would say every player should look for to add to their play bag it would be the Medusa driver from Skyquest Discs, a new manufacturer to the sport last year.
Well the Medusa now has a fancy new sister disc in the L13, an ultra long distance driver.
The L13 is a different feeling disc. While not as soft as say the rubber of the Daredevil Woodchuck putter, it is the most pliable driver I have thrown to-date.
This is a disc you should be able to bounce off the trees at Patrick Park Disc Golf Course in Yorkton repeatedly with not so much as a mark since the softer make-up should absorb a lot of abuse.
That is good news because you will want the L13 to be around for a long, long time.
The Medusa had pretty much become my go-to driver, although a few others still get regular play too. I love the way Medusa glides off the tee.
The L13 adds a few yards to the average Medusa toss, although it is a little less forgiving. Where the Medusa can glide out a long way a few feet off the grass, or still perform with a higher arc and fade, the L13 performs best with a good midrange trajectory in terms of height down the course. That is not a problem with experienced players, but beginners may not get the same steady results from the L13 they could with the Medusa.
What the L13 does prove is that the Medusa was not a fluke. Skyquest Discs are excellent at designing golf discs which perform.
The L13 is a must disc in my bag now, taking up a spot right next to its sister. Both are performers.
Oh and the good news, Skyquest is apparently designing a putter. I can hardly wait.
