We're back to the world of Millennium Discs, a company with a strong stable of offerings, including the Astra reviewed here in June.
This week it's the Millennium Quasar, a sister ultra long range driver to the Astra.
If anyone doubts the Quasar can fly, they need only watch my son throw it a couple of times.
Basket three at Patrick Park Disc Golf Course in Yorkton is 312-feet, with out-of-bounds just beyond the basket.
For me that means being careful on a second approach shot so that I do not over throw the boundary.
My son has taken the stroke penalty for going out of bounds on more than one occasion throwing the Quasar from the tee.
Now Adam is a forehand thrower, and the Quasar seems to love that mechanic. It goes and goes and then lands, often on an edge and rolls and rolls.
The latter situation is generally a bonus because you want to ultimate distant off the tee, but it is not particularly controllable once rolling, so you are at the whim of course topography too.
Interestingly the Millennium site states "The Quasar is built for strong throwers and shots needing a dependable disc to finish with a strong fade. It is our most over-stable disc providing players with confidence when throwing against the wind. This disc is a great choice for both backhand and sidearm throwers."
Well I throw backhand and while I get solid results with the Quasar, my arm is not fast enough at 52. I do get a nice fade though.
Back with my son, the one issue he faces with the forehand toss is that it works against a natural disc fade. A basket such as number two a Patrick Park is a conundrum for him. The short distance takes finesse or he overthrows it, but the big issue is getting the disc to fade into the basket nestled in the tree row.
Still, when I had the Quasar to get a few rounds in to write this review he was not particularly happy since it is his favourite driver, generally by far.
So bottom line on the Quasar?
If you have a hard, powerful throw, buy this disc. It would be one to mark as a must have for big arms.
