In the first season of the Yorkton Novice Hockey League, the Core Real Estate Terriers took home the league title, besting the Clean Spot Terriers in the final 7-2.

"It was a great year," said Core Real Estate head coach Jeff Sperling. "The kids improved a lot and worked hard. Winning the league was a big bonus."

The Yorkton novice clubs left the Major Hockey League at the end of last year and created their own league for development and travel reasons.

"We had more time for practices this year," said Sperling. "We had stationary practices and sometimes two or three teams practiced together. It really helped the kids' development. It was an improvement from last year in the Major Hockey League for development."

The 2012-13 YNHL consisted of five teams: the Core Real Estate Terriers, the Clean Spot Terriers, the Farrell Agencies Terriers, the Frame Tech Terriers and the Thorsness Terriers. Every squad had 12-14 players. In their league play, each team had 12 regular-season games and some playoff matches.
