Canora foursome tops Canora Senior Bonspiel

The Ron Hoehn rink of Canora captured first place at the Canora Senior Bonspiel, held from January 14 to 17 at the Sylvia Fedoruk Centre.

The Ron Hoehn rink of Canora captured first place at the Canora Senior Bonspiel, held from January 14 to 17 at the Sylvia Fedoruk Centre.

In addition to Hoehn at skip, other team members were: Darryl Stevenson, third; Vickie Stevenson, second and Audrey Hoehn, lead.

A total of 19 teams took part in the friendly competition, including seven from Canora, said Vern Schick, organizer. He said he was pleased to see a number of newcomers playing in the bonspiel.

Each team played five games, and scores were kept where four points were awarded for a win, two points for a tie, and two points for winning an end.

The Hoehn rink accumulated 56 points, while the Bob Lebo foursome of Preeceville came in second with 52 points. In addition to Lebo at skip, other team members were: Laura Pasiechnik, third; Darryl Hanson, second and Joe Luciw, lead.

Just behind Lebo in third place, with 50 points, was the Craig Burkell rink of Yorkton. Team members were: Burkell at skip, Jim Morrison, third; Vern Brown, second and Tim Cursons, lead.

The Burkell rink was also recognized for being the oldest team in the bonspiel, with a combined age of 304, which works out to an average age of 76.

Brown came away with another award, winning the draw to the button individual competition. The team competition was won by the Bill Foreman foursome of Canora. In addition to Foreman at skip, other team members were: Bob Roll, third; Bob Waselenko, second and Lynda Statchuk, lead.
