On Mother's Day, the Yorkton United FC Chelsea U12 Division 1 boys kicked off their season in Regina's Leibel Field.
Yorkton's first match at 11 a.m. against QC United was a back-and-forth affair, ending in a 2-2 draw.
After Jordin Rusnak potted a pair of goals, the Queen City Kids stormed back to tie the game up. Neither team could find the back of the net following Regina's two-goal comeback.
In their second contest at 5 p.m. against the Regina AC Pumas, Yorkton caught its stride in this tightly-matched game that saw the United FC squeak away with a 5-4 victory.
Regina opened the scoring early, but Rusnak scored twice to put Yorkton in front shortly after. The two clubs went on to exchange goals with Nick Fetsch and Matthew Cochrane netting Yorkton's markers. In the last three minutes of the match, Nolan Maier played hero, scoring the game-winning goal.
Yorkton head coach Mike Jacubiec was pleased with his team's performance, especially in the second match when they all played very well. But win or lose, Jacubiec felt that the work the boys did on the field was a winning effort.
