When everyone was done golfing in the rain late this past Sunday afternoon at the Deer Park Municipal Golf Course and all numbers had been tallied, the new club champion in the ladies' division was Wendy Boyle.

She shot 91 and 96, and did half of it in anything-but-ideal weather conditions over the weekend. Boyle said she was doing quite well during play on Saturday and had five fewer strokes than her score on Sunday's wrap-up.

"I was about five strokes off the leader yesterday (Saturday)," she said, adding that she didn't have "much expectations" going into it.

The rain came down on Sunday and that didn't make playing any easier, but she didn't lose focus enough to drop down the final standings.

"Saturday was a better day but I felt more comfortable today. I only had one bad hole yesterday."

With the win, Boyle also gets one of the club's reserved parking spots for next season.

Other winners include Lorinda Lemond won the Championship Flite. Diane Nichols and Arlene Nussbaumer came in first and second on the recreational side. Deb Pryslak and Donna Rogers came first and second in the Low Net and runner up categories.

About 21 golfers came out for the weekend tournament.

She added that "the course is in fantastic shape" and she was able to win her first ever club championship.

Boyle said she's a frequent golfer and will be getting her name inscribed on a plaque and will be taking home some money as a result of her win.
