The Yorkton Bantam AA Terriers started the New Year on a bright note, grabbing three-out-of-four points in their first two games after the Christmas break.
The Terriers first game back from the break was against the Battlefords Barons on January 12 in the Civic Centre.
The Terriers and Barons exchanged goals throughout the contest, ending it in a 5-5 tie.
Kade Mosimann scored the lone goal of the opening period, giving the Barons a 1-0 lead.
Brandon Lesko kept the momentum in favour of the Battlefords early in the second, potting one past Terriers puck-stopper Braidon Berezowski to put the Barons up by two.
The Terriers started to catch some steam later in the second with team captain Kylan Shea lighting the lamp at the 6:54 mark.
The Barons got off to a hot start in the third with Jayden Nachtagaele and Josh Sielsky finding the back of the net.
The Terriers quickly responded, though. Carson Welke and Logan Foster netted power-play goals not even a minute apart to put them within one.
Brett Melnychuk sniped his second of the year at the 6:16 mark to tie the game up at four.
It seemed the Barrons were going to take the win as Koby Vidal scored with only 3:45 left in the game.
But Foster had another idea as he tied the game up at five with only 37 seconds left in the contest to end the game in a draw.
Yorkton traveled to Prince Albert the following night to take on the Venice House Raiders.
They laid a beat down on the Raiders in a commanding 9-0 win.
The opening period was scoreless until the last four minutes of play when Brennan Watson and Kylan Shea scored one apiece only 37 seconds apart.
The second period saw Watson, Logan Foster, and Tyler Stratechuk light the lamp to put the Raiders down by five.
The Terriers didn't let up in the final period. Mason Plews, Carson Welke, Brayden Miller, and McKenzie Welke potted markers to close out the shellacking.
Despite the lopsided score, the Terriers only outshot the Raiders 44-35.
Berezowski was the Terriers' top performer, claiming the 35-save shutout
The 7-7-4 Terriers now sit in fifth spot in the Centre Four League's Â鶹´«Ã½AV Division.
Their next contest is against the Humboldt Broncos at home in the Farrell Agencies Arena on Saturday, January 19 at 8 p.m.
