YORKTON - Yorkton has made the list of the 100 most liveable cities as determined by The Globe and Mail newspaper.
鈥淚t鈥檚 pretty exciting, humbling news,鈥 Yorkton Mayor Mitch Hippsley told Yorkton This Week. 鈥. . . I鈥檓 pretty proud of our city.鈥
Hippsley said it was not clear exactly how the national newspaper selected the 100 cities, ultimately Yorkton was one of only three Saskatchewan communities on the list, the others being Regina and Saskatoon.
There were only 10 Prairie province cities on the list.
While details on what went into the selection were not known, Hippsley said he sees the safety we enjoy in Yorkton as a key.
It鈥檚 also a city where you can make a couple of stops on your noon hour, go home, eat lunch and 鈥渂e back at work by one o鈥檆lock,鈥 he said.
Hippsley said making the list 鈥 even at number 73 鈥 is something the community should be proud of. He said essentially making the list was reaffirmation from 鈥渁n outside source of what we already know. We know we live in a great city.鈥
Hippsley said what we have in Yorkton is because of the people and their 鈥渟ense of community.鈥
