Saskatoon woman found in Oregon will have bail hearing Friday

Supporters gathered outside the Saskatchewan Provincial Court to show their support for a Saskatoon woman's release from custody.

SASKATOON -- A bail hearing has been scheduled Friday for a Saskatchewan woman accused of faking her death and that of her son and illegally crossing the border into the United States, according to the Canadian Press. A publication ban has been granted by the judge on any details that may identify the woman's son.

Monday morning, Okanese First Nation Chief Richard Stonechild and former Senator Lillian Dyck joined the family and friends of the Saskatoon woman outside the Saskatchewan Provincial Court to show their support. Her first court appearance was Monday, Aug. 29.

The woman, who had been reported missing, was located in Oregon with her son where US authorities arrested her for allegedly using false identification to cross the border.

The Saskatoon Police Service charged her with abduction in contravention of a custody order and public mischief. She is also facing several charges filed against her by the US Department of Homeland Security.
