The downtown corridor of Outlook was a hotbed of activity on Friday afternoon, February 24 after police and emergency crews were called to the town post office, where a truck had smashed into the southeast side of the building.
Outlook RCMP, firemen and EMS workers were dispatched to the scene on Franklin Street at approximately 1:30 pm after being called by a local resident, and upon their arrival, they saw that a black, 4x4 Dodge Ram pickup had veered up across the sidewalk and through the barricade before colliding violently with the brick exterior of the building.
The lone male driver of the truck, an elderly gentleman, had been parked out in front of the post office when his truck accelerated and went over the sidewalk, knocking over the guardrail before hitting the building, according to Sgt. Mark Langager of the Outlook RCMP.
The man, whose name is not being released by the RCMP, was treated for minor injuries by EMS workers, and luckily no one else was injured in the incident. Sgt. Langager said that no charges are being laid, calling the collision purely an accident.
The Dodge truck had extensive damage to its front, and the brick exterior of the post office was left with a very noticeable and sizable dent of its own. Damage to the building is estimated to be in the tens of thousands of dollars.
