Town of Sturgis elects four new councillors

Residents of the Town of Sturgis elected four new councillors and two incumbents in the civic election held in Sturgis on October26.

            Alan Holmberg will be the new mayor for the Town of Sturgis, effective at the November regular meeting of town council, said Olivia Bartch, administrator. Holmberg, who succeeds Mayor Don Olson, was unopposed.

            'There were 315 voters out of a possible 465 eligible voters with one rejected ballot," said Bartch.

            There were 17 persons nominated for the six councillors’ seats.  Voted in were the two incumbents, Jennifer Bayer with 217 votes and Bert Suknasky with 156 votes.

            The four new councillors are: Perry Keller with 190 votes; Conrad Peterson with 162 votes; Daniel Wasylenchuk with 156 votes, and Dale Bashforth with 153 votes.

            The unsuccessful candidates were: Kim Ryzcak with 145 votes; Michael Messenger with 97 votes; Amber Pristie with 88 votes; Sarah Seversen with 84 votes;  Heather Godlien with 64 votes;  Sheri Skogen with 59 votes; Don Kurulak with 52 votes;  Walter Rose with 45 votes;  Donald Carlson with 35 votes; Alain Basilieres with 28 votes, and Terry Hancock with 16 votes.

            The new council members will take their oaths of office at the November meeting.
