YORKTON - The Yorkton Tribal Council will be hosting a gala at the Event Center located at the Painted Hand Casino Tuesday, Feb. 21.
The event is being timed to mesh with a province-wide meeting set for the city, explained YTC Tribal Chief Isabel O’Soup.
“We had our FSIN (Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations), assembly coming into Yorkton,” she said, adding they hold meetings across the province over time and it is Yorkton’s turn.
So the gala is entertainment for the FSIN delegates, and will also be a fundraiser, said O’Soup, adding money raised will be marked for youth initiatives.
O’Soup said there are always those needing a little extra support to have youth involved in activities.
“There are a lot of low income families out there,” she said, adding money raised will help some of those access sport and youth activities. “Some people just can’t afford it.”
O’Soup added, “First Nations don’t get any funding at all for youth and recreation from the federal government.”
