聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 The Sturgis Station House Museum was represented by Myrtle Boychuk, chairperson, at the Seneca Root meeting held in Kamsack on April 26. Boychuk reported on the highlights of the museum.

鈥淒uring the winter we developed a volunteer recruitment document that we will be implementing this summer so the curator has the resources to contact specific volunteers to do tasks around the museum,鈥� Boychuk said, adding that the forms will be made available at the museum鈥檚 events throughout the summer.

Work on the upstairs storage room has been completed, so now all that is needed is to set the appropriate artifacts in place, she said. 鈥淪torage was always an issue so we are very happy that this is accomplished.

鈥淎nd we got Brookview School designated as a Municipal Heritage Property.

聽 聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淲e are also starting a new exhibit called History of Immigration to Sturgis and surrounding area. This will be very interesting to do, and hopefully more residents will come forward and help us in documenting some real life experiences.

鈥淲e are also re-locating the gift shop to the entrance of the museum to make it more accessible for the residents of Sturgis and tourists to purchase newly-acquired gift shop items that were purchased this winter,鈥� she said.

In January the museum began selling memberships for the 2017 season. A family membership is $7 and individual memberships are $5.

The annual general meeting was held in May, she said.

鈥淲e applied for and received funding for the 2017 season from SaskCulture and the Summer Student Works grants, which has enabled us to once again hire a curator and summer student, which we are currently in the process of doing.

鈥淲e have four group tours already booked in May, and although the museum is not officially open, tours are available by emailing one week in advance to [email protected] requesting a guided tour.鈥�

Several events scheduled for the season include: Mother鈥檚 Day Brunch and Mini Market

聽on May 14; Sturgis Station House Museum officially opens on May 19; opening tea with everyone welcome on June 2 and a hamburger sale on June 16.

The museum volunteers will be selling 50/50 tickets at the chariot races, she said, adding that the tickets sell for three for $5 and may be purchased from any board member on June 24 and 25.

鈥淒uring the Sturgis Station House Museum market on July 5, we will be celebrating Canada鈥檚 150^th 产颈谤迟丑诲补测.鈥�

In the month of August the museum鈥檚 market will be held August 9.

鈥淭he markets this year will include entertainment for adults, children鈥檚 activities and of course, supper will be sold.鈥�

The volunteer recognition day is scheduled for August 27, when a draw will be made for the 50/50 winner.

The museum will be officially closed for the season on September 3, while September 6 will be the museum鈥檚 last market.

鈥淭his will be an exciting summer,鈥� Boychuk said. 鈥淐ome and see what鈥檚 new.鈥�
